Today’s blog post is another message from the You are a Badass calendar. This one dates back to April 13th, 2022 (yes…I managed to save it that long lol).
It reads: “True power comes from thinking what you want to think, regardless of how things appear or what other people say or how impossible your ideas may seem. Your thoughts are what lead the charge through all the obstacles, doubts, and dark nights of the soul that are standing between where you find yourself now and where you’re headed.”
Too many folks try to accomplish their goals while still holding onto a negative mindset.
When it comes to health and fitness, people might say “I’ll never be able to lose this weight so why even try” or “I could never be that strong so why even try.”
A previous leader in an organization where I worked said “there are two types of people in this world…the ‘whys’ and the ‘why nots.’ Candice is one of the ‘why nots.'” At the time, there were no local critical care units that had received a Beacon Award. This award is granted by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses which recognizes excellence in critical care nursing through improved patient outcomes and supportive work environments. Through a collaborative effort, under Candice’s leadership, the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Geisinger Wyoming Valley was the first local unit to accomplish this recognition, being awarded the Silver Beacon Award. It was only one of a handful of PCUs in the state to receive this designation.
My encouragement for you is to adopt a positive mindset towards your health and fitness goals.
Don’t focus on the ways you believe it’s impossible. For example, don’t focus on the fact that you may have tried dozens of ways before and they didn’t pan out. For all you know, the 15th try will be the charm.
Don’t focus on how everyone else in your family is overweight and you are destined to be just like them. What is a limitation for someone else doesn’t have to be a limitation for you. You could just be where the “family curse” comes to an end. It takes just one. I can likely share many stories where just one family member pursuing their own health and fitness change spurred other members of their family to do the same.
Consider saying “why not” to taking one small step to improving your health or fitness. For some, that might mean working with a coach that can help them get on the road towards your goals. For others, it might mean starting with a simple walk or just one serving of vegetables or one glass of water.
Wherever the journey starts with someone, it starts with the thought that success is possible.
Candice has lost over 50 pounds and has kept it off for years and it started with the belief that change was possible.
Believe and let it be possible : )
