A Reflection from Coach Candice

Dan Martell Quote

“Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater
than the pain of change.”

I heard something interesting while listening to a YouTube video from Dan Martell the one day. I heard him speak at a gym owner’s conference on time management 18 months ago and lately, I have enjoyed listening to some of his more recent content on YouTube.  He mentioned something along the lines of, “your story of winning could be the most valuable thing that you ever create in your life.  Your ability to overcome setbacks.  That narrative will be one of the most powerful tools you have to support and change other people’s lives.  The worst thing that has ever happened to you could be your biggest motivation to achieve, to win, to tell that story.  Your purpose in life could sit right next to that worst thing that’s ever happened to you.”

I’ve also heard him say something similar elsewhere: “the source of our greatest pain in life is likely how we’d best serve others” and  “you are most qualified to help the person or people you used to be.”

That really struck me. Mostly because it was fairly true.

I of course started my gym because I love the opportunity to help others experience how good it feels to feel strong.  Who doesn’t love hitting a new personal best in the gym?!

However, perhaps the main driver was helping people lead healthier lives.  Actually, the mission statement on my gym’s Facebook page is “helping people build confidence through wellness and fitness to live their lives to the fullest.”When I was unhealthy, I was not living my life to the fullest.  Some of it was outward.  I was overweight and gradually buying bigger clothes, I was eating very unhealthy food more often than not, and I couldn’t fit on some amusement park rides with my daughter.  That affects how you feel on the inside in that you lack confidence in yourself, you don’t take as many pictures with others (even your own kids), or you don’t participate in as many social events.  (However, I still don’t feel like I enjoy participating in social events…maybe my weight wasn’t the problem there lol!).

Perhaps you can understand what I mean…or perhaps you can relate.

I was able to successfully lose 50 pounds and have kept it off for eight years now.  It isn’t so much about the weight that was lost, but about the freedom and enjoyment I have gained in my life.  It wasn’t and hasn’t been easy, but it has been totally worth it. I am grateful for the experiences that I have had as a result of transforming myself physically and mentally.  I even went as far as writing a book about them!  I have been fortunate to live a life I never would have imagined back when I was severely overweight and unhealthy.

I love life so much more now as a healthier individual that one of my greatest fears is going back to that state.  I feel too good now to ever want to go back to being sick and tired.  It was my greatest “pain.”

I feel like my mission and purpose in life is to help people escape from and overcome that pain.  Maybe that is you reading this, or maybe it is someone else that you know.

Regardless, I view each day as an opportunity to help even just one more person experience how good it feels to feel good.

I am coming up on the beginning of my 3rd year in business.  I consider the “official start date” of my gym to be January 1, 2022.  I use that for tax and other purposes.  However, it took me till April that year to work with my first client, someone who needed nutrition help.  My first client in my garage came in May 2022.

My oh my have we grown!  I am grateful to now have a wonderful team of coaches that work with me that love to also help people lead better lives.

Presently, just over 50 clients utilize our coaching service.  Really though, we help more than 50 people.  We help Moms and Dads show up better for their children, we help grandparents feel stronger and more confident in their daily lives, and we help teens feel healthier and stronger as well.  When you help any one of these individuals, those around them benefit.  In essence, we help hundreds.

I look forward to the opportunity to serve 50 more. I’d love to be able to write to you again in December 2025 about the 100 wonderful people that we serve and support and how we have now likely impacted thousands of lives by helping even just that one person in front of us.

Sincerely,

Your friend in wellness and fitness,

Coach Candice : )
