I have some Monday motivation for you.
Here it is: you’re never too old and it’s never too late.
One of our clients, she’s 52 years young and started with our gym nearly 7 months ago. She was previously going to Planet Fitness, but just didn’t feel dedicated to it. She felt a little intimidated by everything there. She knew given her age how important strength training was for improving her bone health, but didn’t know where to start. She felt plateaued with making improvements in her body composition.
She started first with two (2) 1:1 sessions per week then transitioned into our small group personal training (also known as semi-private training) and works out three (3) days per week with a focus on strength training with some cardio.
Her results thus far:
- down 8.3 pounds body fat
- down 4.8% body fat
- increased muscle mass by 3.1 pounds
- down 3.6 pounds overall
- per her blood work a few months ago, she improved her cholesterol levels
- visceral fat (fat around organs and/or mid-section) went from a score of 10 to 8 (goal score is 10 or below)
- improved her basal metabolic rate from 1367 to 1414 (in other words, more muscle made her metabolism faster)
Here’s the thing – she’ll say the scale hasn’t budged much, but she can tell you that her clothes fit differently. To see her workout, you can definitely see the improved definition in her arms. Yet again, more proof that you can’t always rely on your overall weight on the scale to determine your progress. To look at her numbers, one might at a quick glance say “she only lost 3.6 pounds” but she lost what mattered and gained what mattered.
She may be one of the quietest, most pleasant people to be around but no doubt, she is strong and we couldn’t be more excited to watch her continually make progress.
Her story isn’t too much unlike the stories of many of the women (and men) that we meet.
Perhaps her story resonated with you. If so, we’d love to help!
