Too much to do and too little time

time

I recently received a book in the mail as a gift for having previously attended a conference. It’s titled, “Unhinged Habits: A Counterintuitive Guide for Humans to Have More by Doing Less,” by Jonathan Goodman.

I’m nearly through the first chapter and it seems to be off to a good start. A lot of it is resonating with me as a Mom and small business owner.

A small passage stuck out to me last night. It read, “overworking is a modern vice. Being busy is an excuse for not taking care of yourself or the people that matter to you. You don’t get less busy by working harder. Ridiculous. That’s like trying to stop a storm with more wind. You get less busy by doing fewer things but doing them better with more intentionality.” He went on to say, “if your days are full yet not fulfilling, it’s time for you to examine your life honestly and perhaps, break some bad habits.”

I look forward to examining my own life to better understand where I can perhaps trim to be better focused elsewhere.

I couldn’t help but think how I see this quite often with folks who come to us….and also in those who don’t.

People feel as though they are so busy elsewhere…they don’t feel they have the time to devote even a half hour to take care of themselves.

Or, they do carve out that half hour, but they lack intention and the time they did have is lost to randomness and lack of direction.

The person either spins their wheels as they try to improve their health or fitness…or they just stay stuck.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

Time is precious for all of us–your time and my time.
