Yesterday, I shared a little snippet from a book that I just started reading titled, “Unhinged Habits: A Counterintuitive Guide for Humans to Have More by Doing Less,” by Jonathan Goodman. (You can read that blog post here).
As a Mom and small business owner, an early paragraph really stuck out to me. It read, “overworking is a modern vice. Being busy is an excuse for not taking care of yourself or the people that matter to you. You don’t get less busy by working harder. Ridiculous. That’s like trying to stop a storm with more wind. You get less busy by doing fewer things but doing them better with more intentionality.” He went on to say, “if your days are full yet not fulfilling, it’s time for you to examine your life honestly and perhaps, break some bad habits.”
It reminded me of the many frustrations people express to me when they come in for a consultation. I hear things like, “I’ve been doing this and that, but I’ve plateaued.” “I know I have got to do something, but I just don’t know where to start.” For some, it’s almost like “paralysis by analysis.” There’s so much information out there, but they still don’t know what to do to take that first step forward.
For others, they don’t even reach out because they feel they are just too busy and there is no way they can take even a half hour twice per week to work on improving their personal health. Here’s the thing though…until you take ownership of your life and make the time for you (i.e. be intentional), life will never make the time for you. Or, at least it won’t make the time for you in the way that you want. It will likely happen through illness or injury. Consider this…diabetes doesn’t care that you were too busy to learn how to eat better and be more active. Heart disease doesn’t care that you were overwhelmed with not knowing what to do in the gym. Hearing that might be a little bit of “Tough Love Tuesday.”
All of this to say…these struggles–tight on time, not knowing what to do, feeling stuck–are all reasons why Personal Training is great for someone.
The busier you are and the more you just need to get into the gym and get out–1:1 personal training helps you be more focused and purposeful.
Feeling plateaued and stuck with how to get the needle moving again–1:1 personal training is hyper-focused on you and helps you make changes faster.
Just plain unsure of what to even do? 1:1 person training helps you learn at a comfortable, manageable pace without having to keep up with what a group is doing.
In summary, 1:1 Personal Training allows someone else to “take the wheel” and get you where you are going faster.
Tomorrow, I’m going to share some of the successes for our Personal Training clients!
