Patience in the Process for the Win!

Consistency (and carbs!) for the win!

8 months of consistency (not perfection) and this woman is super-excited with the progress she has made.

In summary:

  • down 23 lbs overall
  • down 24.5 pounds of bodyfat
  • down 10.7% bodyfat

What does she do regularly:

  • tracks the majority of time to ensure she is eating appropriately to support her goals
  • strength trains 4 days a week with a program personalized to her (at Planet Fitness!)
  • walks approximately 30 minutes a day

Some other changes she made:

  • in the past few months, she increased the amount of carbs she was eating…as a result, she saw her muscle mass start to increase back up.  More muscle mass means a faster, better metabolism.  I also get more photos and videos where she is proud of her muscle definition!
  • transitioned from a group training program that was heavily focused on cardio and high reps, low weight strength training and now focuses on lifting as heavy as she personally can with good form in predominately sets of 8-12 reps.  

Other notes:

  • Consistency is the priority.  Strives to make the better decision the majority of the time.  As a busy parent, she has definitely missed sessions here and there due to illness and other life stuff.  She doesn’t let the days add up too much. 
  • She travels a lot for life and work and she has found a way to stay consistent and that has meant a membership at Planet Fitness.   
  • She checks in on her progress approximately once per month (March InBody scan not reflected on this image).  This helps ensure that what she is doing is working and provides better “real-time” knowledge if she needs to adjust something (versus waiting 6 months and realizing you were on the wrong track). 
  • Patient through the process.  She did want to focus primarily at first on weight loss, with a goal of minimizing muscle mass loss.  She did see a small drop in muscle mass, which can happen in the earlier weight loss period, but now she is seeing that trend back up.  The biggest win was not only seeing the muscle mass trend back up, but also still seeing her bodyfat and bodyfat percentage trend down.  Main factor there:  continuing to strength train and adding in more carbs to her nutrition routine.  

44 years young and she is experiencing some of the best feelings that she has had about her body in some time.
