Yesterday I wrote about a key movement, squats, which help someone maintain leg strength for a higher quality, more independent life for a longer period of time.
Today, I want to discuss a movement ability that could save someone’s life, and that is single leg strength.
Why is this so important? Single leg strength helps someone get up off of the floor.
As a Registered Nurse and having worked in the hospital for many years, I’ve heard too many unfortunate stories where someone’s loved one was found laying on the floor because they had fallen and couldn’t get up. (Yep, just like the commercials).
People weren’t found until they had laid there for hours, sometimes days.
Think about it: that person couldn’t pull up one of their legs, kneel, and push up off of that one leg.
Single leg movements, also known as lunge movements, are a key movement that maintaining or enhancing the ability to do, could one day save that person’s life.
We understand that a senior client may not be able to do a lunge movement when they first come to work with us, but we try to keep that as a long-term goal.
We break that movement down into smaller movements until one day, the client can get up off of the floor.
In conclusion, we love helping people who may want to lose weight and fit into their clothes better. However, it means a lot to us to help people simply be in a better position with their health and fitness to enjoy a full life for as long as possible.
Whether in one-on-one personal training or in our small group setting, we’d love to help you or a loved one.
The consultation, our No Sweat Intro, is FREE. You can book that here, or call Coach Candice at 570.715.4440.
