A little bit of Thursday Thoughts and a little bit of Tough Love : )
We were having a discussion at the gym yesterday.
Someone was mentioning how they were going to get serious again and start tracking their nutrition on January 1st.
One of my first questions was, “why not today?” “Why not this week?” “Why wait?”
Too many folks wait for the “perfect” time to get started. However, it never seems to come along. Life is funny like that.
Something to think about is “what makes January 1st any different than today?”
People like to “start fresh on Monday,” yet, January 1st this year is on a Thursday. So why not start today?
The 1st of November is on a Saturday – why not start Saturday?
Consider this, there are 70 days left in the year. 70 opportunities and you are waiting for “THE ONE” day that you feel like will be the turning point. What if that turning point for your health and fitness is Thursday, October 23rd?
Think of all the ways in which over the next 70 days you can do a little something to be even 1% better every day. Track breakfast three times per week. Track your lunch or dinner two times a week over the next few weeks. Get in one strength training workout this week. Walk even just 5 minutes more two to three days this week.
Consider this…you cannot put off improving your health till a certain date. It requires your priority now. You can’t end up hospitalized or started on a new prescription drug and just say, “I’ll start addressing this on January 1st.” At that point, you will be forced to address your health, and it might be a Wednesday.
In closing, you can start:
- today
- this afternoon
- on a Thursday
- the 3rd of the month
There is, and there isn’t, something special about January 1st.
Start somewhere. Start imperfectly.
Just start.
