In a recent YouTube video, I listed 5 key points that serve as a framework for your success in the upcoming year. I go into them a bit more in-depth in the video.
Without further adieu, here they are!
1) Track your nutrition. In short: what gets measured, gets done. Doing this in some sort of way helps you learn more about what you’re eating and what adjustments you need to make to support your goals. Time spent doing this process well will help you: maintain your weight loss goals longer, make progress faster, and help set you up for future success when you eventually don’t track.
2) Make your own food more often than not. This helps give you more control over the process because you know what has gone into the making of your food. Not to mention, you’ll also likely save a ton of money. While most people feel meal prep takes too much time, it 1) actually saves busy people time because it takes a lot of the hassle out of daily decisions and 2) if it’s taking you long, there’s a likelihood that you are doing something wrong. If you still just feel like you can’t do it, a great option for local, healthy food is FitAF Nutrition. They are a local meal prep delivery service that makes great, flavorful foods and they deliver once per week. You can check them out here. Save on your order with our coupon code: achievewellnessAF20
3) Find a form of consistent exercise that you like or enjoy. An ideal program would include a balance of cardio and weight training.
4) Trust the process. Because, here’s the thing…it is a process. It’s a process of learning and unlearning, a process of success and failure. Skip focusing on just six weeks. You live in your body for a lifetime and need a pattern of habits that reflect that. The ones who achieve the best long-term progress are those that have worked on their mindset, ditched the all-or-nothing thinking, and focus on the long-term over the short-term.
5) Don’t make just weight loss goals. If you want one of your goals to be weight loss, that is fine. However, tie in some others that aren’t necessarily weight loss goals. I shared with you two other goals I had alongside my weight loss goals. Ultimately, each of my goals supported one another in some way.
One final note I added: don’t quit. You will work hard and at times it will feel like nothing is happening. You cannot give up at these times. You just never know when you are on the verge of success or making a breakthrough. I strive to view any setbacks or times where I fall short as “not losses, only lessons.” Quite honestly, if you reflect honestly when these instances occur, you learn the most when things don’t go right versus times when they go perfect.
