Do we allow parents to bring kids?

I had a new Mom reach out to me yesterday to ask, “can I bring my baby while I workout?”

I told her, “YES!” and sent her the above “artwork” some kids did on a recent snow day.

What is most important to us: the parents get in their workout.

Why? For a few reasons.

1) It’s good role modeling. We want kids to see parents prioritize their health and that often comes from leading by example. It’s one thing to encourage your child to eat better, but do they see you do it? Or, if you’re going to preach being active, do your kids see you be active? Let your kids grow up with the belief that exercising and prioritizing your physical and mental health is normal.

2) A healthy parent is able to do more with their kids long-term. It’s not just about being able to run and play while their kids are young…it’s also about being able to be around longer. I like to preach, “do something today that your 80-year-old self will thank you for.”

3) More than play, it’s also about being able to respond. If your kid went to dart towards the street, could you sprint to stop them? If your kid was about to do something where they might possibly harm themselves, could you hurry up and get up off the floor? You might think physical fitness isn’t important or a priority…until it is.

4) Mental health and community. Having children and a new baby is wonderful, but also challenging. Too many people are battling alone and could really benefit from being around others. For some, it might be the only time they talk to an adult all day other than their spouse. The time in the gym might be the only thing they do for themselves that day while the rest of the day is devoted to others. It is essential for a parent to pour into their own cup so that they can better pour into others.

Whether it be with us or anywhere, let your kids see you make healthy choices.

If you’re going to encourage exercise, you should exercise.

If you’re going to push fruits and vegetables, be sure they see you eating them too.

If you’re going to encourage your child to read, be sure they are seeing you read as well.

Think about it: we all have more respect for the leader who “walks the walk” and doesn’t just “talk the talk.”

Going to the gym is about more than just a workout.

It’s about being a leader in your home.

It’s about taking care of yourself so that you’re not just around for a long time, but around for a good time!

It’s about self-care so that you have more physical and mental energy for yourself and your loved ones.

We pride ourselves in our flexibility and meeting people where they are at on their journey.

Even if it’s a quick 30-minute session once or twice per week, your mind and body (and your kids!) will thank you for it.

You can do it!

I believe in you : )

Sincerely,
