Be a Rebel

I have a special request for you: Be a Rebel.

red person among gray

A Rebel creates a body so healthy, our healthcare system and the pharmaceutical companies can’t profit from it.

Here is what most people do today:

  • people complain of an ailment
  • they go to the doctor
  • doctor prescribes a pill
  • person picks up the prescription and starts taking it
  • ailment resolves (or it doesn’t)
  • a new symptom emerges
  • person goes to the doctor
  • a new pill is prescribed
  • person picks it up and starts taking it
  • perhaps ailment resolves (or it doesn’t)

…and the cycle continues with no real solution.

Or, consider this:

  • person discovers a certain pain or discomfort
  • they go to the doctor
  • doctor might order imaging, maybe a pill to manage the pain, you go to physical therapy
  • ailment resolves (or it doesn’t)
  • you go for more imaging, maybe even add a prescription, you get referred to a specialist
  • maybe you go for more therapy or a procedure is recommended
  • perhaps the ailment resolves (or it doesn’t).

It’s a never-ending cycle where you are always in their grasp.

What the doctor doesn’t tell you:

  • eat more whole foods including fruits and vegetables (much of our ailments or complaints could be resolved by improving our nutritional intake)
  • drink more water, approximately 50% of bodyweight in ounces of water per day (our energy might be low or we might be achy due to dehydration)
  • walk more, approximately 8,000-10,000 steps per day (much of our daily aches and pains could be resolved through regular movement)
  • strive for 7-9 hours of sleep nightly (this helps improve our body’s recovery processes and would likely resolve a lot of mood, daily achiness, hormone regulation, and helps with a number of other health concerns)
  • get some daily dose of sunshine (vitamin D helps with immunity, mood, and hormone regulation)
  • lift weights two to three times per week (helps improve metabolic function, bone strength, and increases overall quality of life)

Why aren’t THESE interventions recommended?

They can’t make money off of them.

  • a capable, able body often doesn’t need routine physical therapy services, expensive joint replacements, or prescriptions
  • a mind and body that is functioning well metabolically doesn’t need a boat-load of prescriptions
  • a mind and body that is functioning well doesn’t require multiple doctor visits per year
  • people who don’t need prescriptions or expensive procedures don’t fund the construction of new buildings

Be a Rebel.

Be willing to do the unsexy stuff that really improves your health and stops you from being a repeat customer like everyone else.

A fit person stands out…in a good way.

The crowd I’d rather fit into: the one that prioritizes health and gets the most out of everyday. Not the one repeatedly at the doctor or in some medical office.

It’s OK if you have been that gray person for some time.

There is always time to be the red person who stands out. It takes one small action. Then another. Then another.

You can do it.

I believe in you.
